Deeply rooted and broadly drawn, Georgian Bay Forever is steered by lifelong devotees to the Bay. We are committed advocates, educators, environmentalists, realists, idealists, and of course, residents.

DIRECTORS

Brenda Drinkwalter
 

Brenda is a senior consultant in the areas of business strategy, communications, and community, government and regulatory relations. She has an MBA from York University and an Honours BSc in Biochemistry from Queen’s University. She is a past Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Canada and Latin America Region and Global Privacy Coordinator with IMS Health Limited and past President of the Canadian Drug Manufacturers Association. Prior to joining CDMA she was Vice President, Corporate Relations for Novopharm Ltd. and a pharmaceutical regulator with Health Canada. Brenda has completed the Institute of Corporate Director Program at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto and has achieved the ICD.D certification as a Corporate Director. She has served on a number of for profit and not for profit Boards and is currently a Director of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation Board.


Peter Hatcher

Peter is Vice-President and Financial Advisor with CIBC Wood Gundy. He has been a Georgian Bay Cottager since 1969. Peter is the founder of the Sans Souci Tennis Club and past President of the Badminton and Racquet Club, Toronto. Peter serves on the Georgian Bay Forever fundraising and nominating committees.



Michael Hensel
 

Mike has been providing Environmental/Landscape Architectural and Project Management services to public and private sector clients across Ontario since 1981. His role throughout the several hundred projects he has completed has always been one of co-ordination either as a member of a team or team leader. Mike regularly co-ordinates interdisciplinary project teams to address a wide range of natural environment and associated site design/development issues. Since the 1980’s Mike has been working with clients to provide sustainable solutions for a wide variety of project challenges including Community Design. He was on the design team for the first “Green Home” built in Canada. He was also the project approvals coordinator for Camp Ki-wa-Y which displayed the latest in new technologies and land stewardship principles for children to interpret as a part of lessons on how to live more lightly upon the earth. In 1999, Mike was given the Carl Borgstrom Award for service to the environment by the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects. Mike is also the recipient of several urban site plan and environmental awards for his work.





Rod Jones
 

Rod Jones, President and CEO of CSS Group has been with CSL for over 24 years. In 1992, Rod and a team of CSL Montreal employees started CSL International located in Beverly, MA. Under his leadership, CSL International grew beyond Beverly to offices in Australia, as well as Singapore. Prior to CSL, Rod held leadership positions at Van Ommeren and Navios Corp. Early on in his career he was a Lieutenant junior grade in the US Navy. Rod holds a BA from Colby College and an MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. Rod is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Standard P & I (Protection & Indemnity) Club and an active member of the Connecticut Maritime Association. Rod is a member of the San Souci and Copperhead Association.



Hugh McLelland

Hugh is the founder, Chairman and CEO of the Queensbury Group, a Canadian wealth management organization of approximately 100 advisors in: Queensbury Securities – securities; Queensbury Strategies - mutual funds; and Queensbury Insurance Brokers Inc – insurance. He is a past president and an Honorary Life Member of the Georgian Bay Association and a former director and president of the Bay of Islands Community Association. He is a lay member of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and a director and Chair of the Finance Committee for S.H.A.R.E. Agricultural Foundation. Hugh is a member of the Sous - Commanderie de Toronto in the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin and has served as its membership chair. He is currently a director and member of the Governance Committee of Georgian Bay Forever.



David Parkes

David owns and operates David Parkes and Associates Inc, serves on the board of directors of Envoy Communications (TSX and Nasdaq) and Mitec Telecom Inc (TSX), and was an original board member of Microcell Communications. David is the former President & CEO of Sprint Cda. ,Look Communications & TeleSpectrum, and former EVP, Sales for Rogers Wireless. Previously, David served in executive-level positions at Cara Operations Ltd. and Versa Food Services. David has served as Chair, Fundraising Committee for Canadian Special Olympics, Chairman of Junior Achievement Metro Toronto, Director of JA Canada, Chair Property Committee for the Sans Souci and Copperhead Association, and numerous other community organizations. Currently David is the vice-chair of GBF and chairs the Fundraising Committee and is a member of the nominating committee of Georgian Bay Forever.


Penny Pepperell

Penny Pepperell has had a varied career in marketing and advertising but primarily as a writer and editor. She is the author of a book of poetry, co-author of two editions of a guide to family law, and many feature articles for national magazines. She has held various positions to do with Georgian Bay, beginning with that of board member and then president of the Sans Souci and Copperhead Association. She continues to be actively engaged as a member of the SSCA advisory board, most recently chairing a committee that advised the SSCA on how it might engage in the municipal elections. Penny sat on the board of the Georgian Bay Association before assuming the role of editor of GBA Update, a position she held for four years. She stepped in briefly as special advisor to the Board when the position of executive director fell vacant. She takes a special interest in rendering scientific subjects intelligible to the general reader. She currently heads up Georgian Bay Forever’s communications committee and is editor and writer of its newsletter. Penny has a degree in English from the University of Toronto. She is married with two children and three grandchildren, and cottages in Sans Souci.


Larry Ward, FCA

Larry is a retired partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and is currently a director of Independent Review Inc. and a member of six independent review committees of mutual fund organizations. He is a director of Breakfast for Learning and a past director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, The Badminton and Racquet Club, Sunnybrook Foundation and several other not-for-profit organizations. He is a past director and president of the Honey Harbour Boat Club and a past director of the Cognashene Cottagers Association. He currently serves as Treasurer and chairs the Finance Committee of Georgian Bay Forever.


Scott White

Scott is the Editor-in-Chief of The Canadian Press. He is the past president and 15 year board member of the Georgian Bay Association. Scott is a fourth generation Georgian Bay cottager.




Hugh Wilkins LLB.,LLM.

Hugh is the coordinating lawyer, Ecojustice Canada (formerly Sierra Legal). He also serves as an adjunct professor Osgoode Hall in Natural Resources Law. Hugh has an active career in environmental law and has worked with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) (International) and other organisations. Hugh is the Managing Editor of the Review of European Community and International Environmental Law (RECIEL) which is published by Wiley/Blackwell and he is also a member of the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law. Hugh serves on the Communication and Governance Committees for GBF.

David Sweetnam

David is the Executive Director of Georgian Bay Forever. David was formerly Vice-President, intelliNet Technologies Inc., Senior Vice-President, Meridex Software Corporation; President and CEO, the Praxium Group; President and CEO, Sweetnam Consulting Inc.; and Director of EnviroHealth Caledon. Sweetnam holds a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Waterloo. He has spent years boating and camping throughout Georgian Bay and its waterways.
