
Conservation
The universal goal of Georgian Bay Forever is to conserve the aquatic ecosystem of Georgian Bay, from the deep, murky lakebed to the offshore wetlands teeming with countless flora and fauna. Everything we do is comes down to preserving, protecting, and ultimately conserving these vital and amazing natural habitats.

Bits of monofilament fishing line is often discarded into the water, and rarely recycled. We're here to provide easy access to fishing line receptacles, and to educate people about why the act of discarding fishing equipment is hazardous to the environment.

We work regularly in Matchedash Bay, one of the most important wetlands in the world. This work involves invasive Phragmites management and species-at risk protection.

We work to tag, track, and monitor endangered Blanding's turtles as one of the significant species at risk in Ontario and specifically in Matchedash Bay, a globally significant wetland.

With the use of multiple pieces of in-water filtering equipment, this project acts as the running engine for removing micro-pollution and small littered items in Georgian Bay.

Local businesses are taking a stand against plastic waste, and acting as the example for a sustainable economy. Any business can join this project and help create a circular economy with less waste.

Every summer and fall we host or help others to host cleanup events throughout public Georgian Bay coastal areas. Anyone can volunteer and contribute to keeping Georgian Bay coasts and waters clean.

Our ongoing work to eradicate and manage invasive Phragmites stands along the Georgian Bay coastline is one of our most successful and effective projects.

We are partnered with Save the Waves so that people can report a problem in real-time at a Georgian Bay area, deliver the information in a comprehensive manner, and make sure that the right people are informed.

Cigarette butts are the most commonly littered item in the world. The Unsmoke project works to spread awareness of this issue, and offers people convenient alternatives to littering.
